Vickie spent the afternoon at the home of friends and former neighbors for an annual New Years Day get-together. She ate her share of goodies and visited with friends who hadn’t seen her for quite a while.

It has been quite a year for Vickie. Some profound changes and some things are still pretty much the same as this time last year.

New years day 2005, Vickie resided at R.H. nursing facility. We were anxious to move her on to what we hoped would be the next level of her recovery.

February was the month Vickie transferred to Good Samaritan for advanced therapy. Between Insurance restrictions and the relentless nausea episodes, the therapy was less than satisfactory and did little to benefit her.

After three weeks at GS Vickie returned to her home for the first time since the previous June.

Thru spring and early summer the sickness prevented any sustained recovery process. The last week of July the situation became critical and couldn’t be ignored any longer. A simple exploratory procedure brought the cause of the problem to the surface, both figuratively and literally. A major surgery followed and Vickie’s caregivers needed to learn a new skill.

Mid October, the July surgery was reversed and in December the previously removed shunt had to be replaced. Now, Vickie’s physical condition seems to be improving, albeit ever so slowly.

With the serious medical issues resolved maybe the new year will bring Vickie better progress.
