Something about having lots of kids and family around causes Vickie to come out of her shell somewhat.
Vickie attended the yearly Christmas eve family get-together at her childhood home.
All went as well as could be expected.

Vickie immediately recognized her nurse when she arrived at the nurse's station at MHMC. She was there to have her Peg tube replaced. The procedure went well as a new and better one took the place of the "temporary" one from last February.

Vickie was unusually alert and talkative this afternoon during her trip to the Dr. for her monthly B-12 injection. She also received a Flu shot just to be safe.

Family hosted a birthday get-together for Vickie Friday evening at a local Pizza house.
She handled the attention well and enjoyed the food. She was tired when she returned to her residence.

Vickie's major dental appointment went well Thursday. Since it was the first one in 6 years, there was much to be done.
She will be on a regular dental schedule from now on.

Several weeks ago Vickie broke a front tooth while eating a hamburger. Because of her behavior problems Dental visits are a problem.
Today Vickie had an appointment with a dental office that specializes in "sleep dentistry". The patient is given IV sedation before the work is performed.
Vickie will have the badly deteriorated tooth removed as soon as her Dr and the dentist consult on her condition.
Vickie was cooperative during the initial visit.

A planned procedure to replace Vickie's feeding tube didn't go quite as proposed. The Dr.was unable to replace the defective tube with an identical one. A less efficient, temporary replacement was used instead.
Vickie was cooperative and alert, recognizing some of the staff from when she was an employee at MT.H.MC.

Vickie had Christmas day dinner at a sister's home today. She ate everything that was offered.
During the trip back to her residence Vickie was unusually alert and aware, commenting on the area and the signs she observed.

Chilly weather didn't stop Vickie from attending the annual Christmas eve family get-together at her sister's home. She was in good form most of the evening, enjoying snacks and interacting with relatives.

Monday afternoon Vickie visited her Dr. about some lung congestion she is experiencing. X-rays were taken at MHMC. We should know in a day or so if there is a serious problem.

Sunday afternoon Vickie visited at a Nieces home for a family reunion. Vickie was quiet and didn't interact with others very much. Everyone was happy to see her anyway.

Vickie was rather quiet today during her trip to the Dr.'s office for her monthly vitamin injection.
The infection that flared-up a few weeks ago seems to be under control at least for now.

Vickie spent Friday afternoon in the MHMC emergency department. Her caregiver suspected the ongoing UTI had suddenly became worse.
Vickie was given a powerful antibiotic intravenously.
She returned to her residence in the evening. She will take another antibiotic for 10 days.
Vickie handled the hospital visit well. The Dr. that treated Vickie remembered her from when she worked at the hospital years ago.

Today marks five years since Vickie was stricken with her life changing injury.
Vickie's condition has changed little in the last several years. She has had several bone fractures of her left arm and leg that were related to the total paralysis of her left side.
The ongoing infections seem to be under control with medication, most of the time.
Vickie's mental abilities are still limited and are not expected to improve. She experiences psychosis episodes regularly in which she is not responsive to others in the room.
She will remain in Foster care, where all of her needs are meet as long as possible. The personal attention she receives there is preferable to the larger professional care facilities.

Today Vickie went to MHMC. Her feeding tube was replaced with a new one. The old tube fitting was leaking and had been a problem for some time. The procedure was done quickly and it was not stressful for Vickie.

Vickie had a routine checkup with her regular Dr. this afternoon. Some medication dosages will have minor changes. Her BP was 120/80, can't get much better than that.
During the ride back to her residence Vickie had some unusual lucid moments. She asked how old she was. When she was informed she was 60 years old, she responded "I thought I was 18". She asked what had happened to her. The brief explanation along with the rest of the conversation were soon forgotten and the situation returned to what is now, normal .

Vickie visited her Dr.'s office Wednesday morning for her monthly B-12 shot. She made the trip without any problems.

The latest X-Rays of Vickie's broken leg show the fracture has plenty of new bone growth. It should be good as new in a few weeks.

Better, follow-up X-rays show that Vickie's leg fracture is healing properly although not rapidly. More X-rays will be done in 2 weeks to check the progress.
